POUGHKEEPSIE - The Walkway Over the Hudson has been hailed as a dog friendly park since its opening in 2009, so it is only fitting that this dog haven in the sky will now host Dog Adoption Day Saturday, April 20th. Start off the fun filled day with a dog walk from 9-11 a.m. Participate in a pet etiquette discussion. Walkway doggie memberships and dog bandanas will be raffled off.
After the dog walk, on the West Side from 11-4 p.m. dogs will be available for adoption from shelters all over New York. Meet a new family member, or just take a look and talk to shelter staff. Even those that cannot adopt can find out about volunteering, or fostering a pet to help out. Activities will include face painting, balloon animals, and a visit from mascot Harvey the Hound! Your pooch will enjoy fresh baked dog treats from Cakes by Meg. Stylish t-shirts will be available. Workshops will demonstrate how to introduce your dogs to one another, doggie body language, and information on heat exhaustion will be discussed by Pet and Play Resort. Other information will be available from Dirty Dogs Pet Wash and other pet industry businesses. Even a local salsa company My Brother Bobby’s Salsa packaged a special edition label to commemorate and help promote the event.
Adopting is not the only way to help! Drop off pet food, treats, beds, toys, cleaning supplies, towels, and old blankets. These donated items will be divided up and given to the shelters that participate in Dog Adoption Day.
