POUGHKEEPSIE - Vassar College senior women’s basketball guard Cydni Matsuoka continued to add accolades to her already amazing resume, as she was named as a Women’s Basketball Coaches of America (WBCA) Division III All-American.
The team, which consists of 10 members and is selected by a vote of a selection committee that is comprised of one represenative from each of the eight geographical regions and a chairperson. This is the second time in Matsuoka’s career that she has been honored by the WBCA.
Recently named D3hoops.com East Region Player of the Year and Jostens Trophy finalist, Matsuoka was sensational during her senior campaign, as she averaged 18.8 points per game in helping lead the Brewers to their third Liberty League title in the last four seasons. Matsuoka was also huge in leading Vassar to its first ever NCAA Tournament win, knocking off Williams College 76-75 thanks to a game-best 31 points from Matsuoka.
For her career, the two-time Liberty League Player of the Year scored 1,923 points and is the all-time leader in most statistical categories for the Brewers. This season, she played 36.3 minutes per game, shooting 49.6 percent from the field, making nearly 48 percent of her shots from deep. She also leads the country in free throw shooting, having made all but five of her 78 freebies this season.
