LOUDONVILLE - The Marist women’s basketball team used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to pull away for a 66-48 victory at Siena Sunday afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game.
Casey Dulin scored a game-high 14 points to go along with four assists and three rebounds. She also was one of three Red Foxes to register two blocks, the second time she has done that in as many games. Kristina Danella had 13 points and six rebounds off the bench and Elizabeth Beynnon finished with 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half. Emma O’Connor finished one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 10 points to go along with a new personal best of nine rebounds.
Marist (17-6, 12-0 MAAC) opened the game by jumping out to a 6-2 run, but Siena (9-14, 5-7) stormed right back and took the lead 13-11 on the back of an 11-5 run.
The Red Foxes would hold the Saints scoreless for the next 6:04, going on a 10-0 run to take a 21-13 lead. A cutting layup by Dulin tied the score at 13 and Dulin followed with her second three-pointer of the half. Danella then hit a jumper and Leanne Ockenden hit a trey to conclude the streak.
Siena closed to within two points at 22-20, but four consecutive free throws by O’Connor and a put-back by Danella gave the Red Foxes a 28-24 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Red Foxes extended the lead to seven at 40-33, but he Saints made a run and closed to within four at 44-40 with 10:09 left. The defense clamped down, holding Siena scoreless while the offense went on an 11-0 run to open a 15-point lead at 55-40 with 5:26 left.
Danella scored five points and Beynnon added four in the game’s final four minutes to provide the final margin.
Marist returns home to McCann Arena for the next three games, starting with Niagara at 5 p.m. on Friday.
