POUGHKEEPSIE – Junior Cydni Matsuoka scored 18 points in the Brewers’ 76-47 win over Hunter College on Friday, becoming the tenth player in Vassar College women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points.
The guard’s first bucket was vintage Matsuoka - a three from the left side. The historic basket came at the 7:28 mark of the first half, a smooth jumper that never touched iron. In reaching the milestone in just her fourth game as a junior, Matsuoka becomes the quickest Vassar women’s basketball player to hit the 1,000 point mark.
The Brewers’ win raises the team’s record to 4-0 on the season. Hunter College fell to 1-4 in the loss.
"I am very honored to join such a prestigious group of players to have reached 1,000 career points," Matsuoka said afterwards. "I was fortunate to get a lot of playing time as a freshman and that helped contribute to this record. I am glad I was able to get the record at home in front of our fans, who have been so supportive of myself and the team."
