LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Marist men’s basketball team fell victim to a pair of late Rider scoring runs to take a 67-63 setback. In the final minutes of the game, the Broncs (15-13, 10-6 MAAC) posted a 9-1 run and a closely followed 7-0 run on their way to the win over Marist (7-20, 4-12).
Sophomore Chavaughn Lewis led Marist with 18 points. Adam Kemp netted 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Marist opened the game with early success from long range as Lewis netted back-to-back three pointers to spot the Red Foxes a 6-2 lead.
Marist would extend its lead to 29-20 by 4:47. A 10-4 stretch of play by Rider to close the half gave Marist a 33-30 lead at the halftime break.
After the intermission, the Red Foxes got hot again with an 8-0 run to expand their lead to 41-30.
In control of the game at 49-39 with just over 13 minutes to go, the Red Foxes would see the Broncs fight back with the first of three extend runs in the second half to re-take the lead. Unfortunately for the Red Foxes, the Broncs would hold on for the 67-63 win.
Marist will next take part in their 2013 Ramada Bracketbusters matchup on February 23rd versus VMI.
