Engle to coach for Team USA at IAAF World Championships

Troy Engle

WEST POINT - Army track and field head coach Troy Engle will serve as an assistant coach for the men’s distance contingent for Team USA at the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Championships. Scheduled for Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia, Army’s sixth-year head coach will travel to Linz, Austria to begin training camp on July 28th prior to the World Games.

Engle was one of four assistant coaches appointed to head coach Mike Holloway’s staff. In addition to Engle, Holloway, of the University of Florida, also has Curtis Frye (South Carolina; sprints/hurdles), Stephen Cooksey (Navy; jumps/combined events) and Brian Blutreich (Oklahoma; throws) on staff.

"I am very thankful for the support of Army Athletic Director Boo Corrigan and the rest of the leadership at the United States Military Academy in allowing me to take advantage of this opportunity," said Engle. "To represent the United States as a staff member of Team USA is an incredible privilege and one I do not take lightly."

Coach Engle is currently in Lyon, France assisting with the International Paralympic Committee World Championships before heading Austria and Russia. Other recent international coaching duties include the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico and the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

Engle is one of two Army mentors to coach on the international level this summer as men’s soccer head coach Russell Payne served as an assistant of the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
