Bridges sets new 200m dash record at ECACs

Vassar’s Ariel Bridges set a new school record by running a 26:01 to place third in her heat and 19th overall in the 200 Meter Dash during the ECAC Track Championships.
Troy - In a season replete with a host of outstanding individual performances by the Vassar College women’s track team, freshman Ariel Bridges closed out her stellar first season by setting a school record in the 200 Meter Dash at the ECAC Track Championships at RPI’s Ned Harkness Field on Friday afternoon.

Bridges blazed a 26:01 to place third in the Section 4 heat, a time that earned her 19th overall position in a field of 39 runners. In that same race, fellow freshman stalwart Heather Ingraham finished 27th overall (26.29) after a 7th place finish in the Section 4 heat.

The 4x800 Meter Relay team comprised of Payton Johnson, Viviane Ford, Tiffany Marchell and Kelly Holmes concluded ECAC competition for Vassar and finished 5th in the Section 2 heat (9:38.22) and 8th overall.

In the 4 x 100 Meter Relay, which started the second day of running for Vassar, the Brewers team of Ingraham, Nina Andersen, Katy Hwang and Bridges, finished 5th in the Section 1 heat in a 50.47 time, the second fastest time of the season.

In the 400 Meter Dash, Ingraham finished in 59.08, a solid time that netted her 15th out of 27 runners.

In the 800 Meter Run, Marchell, finished third in the Section 1 heat with a personal best 2:18.06 time and finished 10th overall. Holmes fell off the race pace in the first 500 meters and had a disappointing 12th overall place (2:18.43).

“We had a strong two-days of running at the ECACs and our team gained a lot of important experience and performed well,” said head coach James McCowan. “As we had done throughout the season, our veteran runners stepped up and our freshman runners showed we have a great foundation that has a bright future ahead.”
