Mount track excels at Vassar April Invitational
Mount Saint Mary College Sophomore Amanda Pfister placed third in the 400 meter hurdles at Vassar Collegeâ€™s April Invitational in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Poughkeepsie - The Mount Saint Mary College women’s and men’s track teams performed well while competing in the April Invitational at Vassar College on Saturday. The women finished tied for fourth in an 11 team field with a total of 64 points. The men earned 16 points to finish in eighth place in a field of 15 teams.
Several women turned in strong individual performances to lead the women to their fourth place finish. Mount sophomore Ope Ifafore took second place in both the shot put and the discus with throws of 10.51 mq and 34.32 m, respectively. Ifafore also raced to a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash, setting a new school record with a time of 28.02.
Mount sophomore Nicole Zazzero earned a third place in the 1500 meter run (5:04.6), also setting a new school record in the process. In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Amanda Pfister and freshman Kaite Moore placed third and sixth, respectively. Moore’s javelin throw of 23.96 m earned her sixth place in that event as well.
On the men’s side, sophomore Scott Colello continued to excel in multiple events. Colello finished second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.81) and fourth in the long jump (6.44 m). Mount sophomore Matt Soltis set a new school record in the 400 meter dash, finishing fifth with a time of 52.86.
Up next, both the men’s and women’s teams will travel to Ramapo College for the Roadrunner Express on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
