ROCHESTER – The Vassar College women’s tennis team recorded its first shutout, 9-0 win in dual match play this season against Liberty League opponent, Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday.

A total of two singles matches and one doubles match saw a Tiger being completely shut out as well. The No. 3 duo of junior Lindsay Kantor and sophomore Kelsey Van Noy got the 8-0 win over Margaret Barnstein and Paige Baker. Kantor went on to pick up a 6-0, 6-0 No. 4 singles win over Bridget Avery.

Freshman Shayna Becker earned the Brewers’ final shutout match win against Baker at No. 5 singles. Van Noy gave up three points in her first set at No. 6 against Barnstein but came away with the 6-0 second set victory.

Between No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the Brewers only allowed a combined three points from the Tigers. In every singles match except for No. 1, Vassar gave up only 11 points through the five positions.

The No. 1 singles match featuring Vassar’s Samantha Schapiro and RIT’s Maite Vera Antelo was the closest of all of the play in the Gordon Field House on Sunday. Schapiro won in a third set tiebreaker with a final score of 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.

The Brewers will host the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, April 5 at 10:00.
