Mount tennis team falls short in Skyline championship match

FARMINGDALE - Top-seeded Farmingdale State College defended its Skyline Conference championship on Saturday, defeating Mount Saint Mary College, 5-1. The Knights finish the season with a record of 14-6.

Freshman Dan Witke and sophomore Conor Merryman hung tough at third doubles, but were eventually defeated, 8-6. Junior Stat Willand and freshman Mike Balokoz also fell in an 8-4 decision.

In singles action, Balokoz put the Knights on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 win at fourth singles. Willand dropped a 6-3, 6-3 match at number three and the Rams clinched at number two. Sophomore Nate Dimmie played well, but ran into a buzzsaw in tournament MVP Ryan Musalo.

Junior Greg Jacob trailed 6-4, 3-1 at number one singles, Witke was down 6-1, 6-5 at fifth singles, and sophomore Connor Bean trailed 7-5, 3-1 at sixth singles.
