NEWBURGH -
Mount Saint Mary College women’s tennis team remained unbeaten on the year with a narrow 5-4 win over Purchase College in Skyline Conference action on Saturday. The Knights bump to 8-0 overall (4-0 Skyline), while the Panthers drop back to 6-3 overall (2-2 Skyline).
The Mount took two of the three doubles points to take an early lead. Senior Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg and freshman Ashlynne O’Brien took an 8-2 decision at number one, while freshman Morgan Holbrook paired with sophomore Alissa Niad for an 8-1 win at second doubles.
Murphy-Goldberg claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles and Holbrook was equally impressive in a 6-1, 6-2 win at second. The match would be decided, however, by freshman Breanna Scott. Scott came through with a clutch 6-3, 6-4 win at sixth singles to provide the clinching point.
MSMC will continue Skyline Conference play at 5 p.m. on Wednesday with a match against the Sage Colleges.
