Glazer leads Red Foxes to win over Manhattan



Freshman Danielle Glazer scored her third goal of the season for the Red Foxes as Marist defeated the Manhattan Jaspers, 1-0, at Tenney Stadium on Saturday.

POUGHKEEPSIE - Freshman Danielle Glazer scored her third goal of the season to lead the Marist women’s soccer team over the Manhattan Jaspers 1-0 on Saturday at Tenney Stadium in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Junior Amanda Epstein was credited with the assist in the 33rd minute. Junior goalkeeper Andrea Wicks recorded one save for her second shutout of the season.

The Red Foxes capitalized with 11:28 left in the half. Epstein crossed the ball to Glazer, who finished with a goal to the right corner of the net just past Jasper’s goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny.

"I had a great cross from Epstein, and I was able to get on the end of it to score the winning goal," said Glazer of her key play. "It was great to win today because it was our pink out game, there was a great crowd."

During the first half, Marist took four shots on goal, including a shot under high pressure from Rycke Guiney, that was saved by Manhattan goalie Kristen Skonieczny. Moments later, Juliette Loccisano made an attempt that was barely high.

The Jaspers did not have any shots on goal during the first half. Marist played an aggressive first half, totaling 12 fouls, compared to Manhattans five. The Red Foxes dominated the offensive end during the second half. Epstein had a shot with 30 minutes left, which was saved by ManhattansSkonieczny. With 26:52 left in the game, Guiney took a shot from the left side of the box and barely missed the right corner of the net, and ten minutes later, a great cross from Jessica Fanelli just missed connecting with Maria Moreno.

Defensively, Kylee McIntosh had a key header to clear the box after a Manhattan free kick. Wicks had a few collision saves to keep the Jaspers scoreless. Manhattansfirst and only shot on goal of the game came with seven minutes left from Emily Ude, but was saved by Wicks.

The Red Foxes are back in action on Wednesday, September 25, when they take on Niagara University. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
