Mackey Awarded Grad Engineering Fellowship



Jarrett Mackey, a two-year captain on the football team and a member of the West Point Class of 2013, has been awarded a Graduate Engineering Degree for Minorities Fellowship. Hudson Valley Press/CHUCK STEWART, JR.

WEST POINT - Jarrett Mackey, a two-year captain on the football team and a member of the West Point Class of 2013, has been awarded a Graduate Engineering Degree for Minorities Fellowship, it was recent announced.

Mackey, a native of Snellsville, Ga., graduated in December of last year with a degree in Engineering Management after he collected four varsity letters as a member of the football team.

Recently, he was notified about earning a fellowship.

The National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science provides graduate fellowships in engineering and science to highly qualified individuals.

Mackey, part of the Excel Scholars team while at West Point for academic excellence, has been accepted to the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. He will pursue a Master’s of Science in Health Systems.

Mackey appeared in seven games in his first collegiate season in 2009 and then started all 13 games in 2010, including Army’s Armed Forces Bowl victory over SMU. A knee injury limited him in 2011 and he returned to serve two seasons as team captain.
