Newburgh’s Gianna Frontera and former Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton at the 5 Star cross country camp.
By Richard Furst

Gianna Frontera, along with 108 of her fellow runners, attended the 5 Star cross country camp last week and got to meet Suzy Favor Hamilton.

Favor Hamilton is a three-time Olympian, making the team in 1992, 1996 and 2000. She has recorded five of the top nine 1500m times ever run by an American.
Frontera is a New York State 3000m champion and led all female runners at camp. In fact, Frontera trained with the second boys group.

During the camp, runners train easy in the morning, play games and go to seminars during the day, then do a main run of 3 to 12 miles depending on the day and the training group.

Favor Hamilton spent three days at camp and spoke about the pressures of being the best. She also demonstrated specific pool workouts.

Favor Hamilton said that the camp was the best running camp that she ever spoke to and expressed an interest in returning next year.
