Spinners Take Series Finale

Wappingers Falls - The Hudson Valley Renegades lost 9-1 to the Lowell Spinners on Sunday evening, dropping to 41-22 this season. They are now 23-8 at Dutchess Stadium in 2014, and hold an eight game lead over Brooklyn in first place of the McNamara Division.  With the second best record in the New York-Penn League, the Renegades head into the All-Star break 19 games over .500. Hudson Valley and Tri-City are the only two teams in the league to exceed 40 wins through the first 63 games, and the only two to reach at least 20 home victories at this point.

Oscar Armenta got the start on the hill, and went five innings in his eleventh start of the season. He surrendered three runs, no walks and three strikeouts in the outing. He is now 4-2 in 2014 with a 3.42 ERA in 55.1 innings of work.

Three Hudson Valley relief pitchers would come on to throw after Armenta, as Edgar Gomez, Ryan Pennell and Kyle McKenzie went the next four innings. They combined for just one earned run, 1 walk and five strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Offensively, four batters recorded two hits or more on the night. Bralin Jackson led the way going 3-4 with a double, bringing his batting average up to .288 on the year. Braxton Lee, Jace Conrad and Alec Sole all had two hits in the outing. The Renegades scored their first run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Sole singled up the middle to score Jace Conrad. They scored their one run on ten hits, having at least one runner on base in six out of the nine innings.
