Vassar wins nightcap to earn a split against St. Lawrence

Vassar fell 4-3 in game one before taking the nightcap, 4-2, to earn a doubleheader split against their Liberty League rival St. Lawrence.

POUGHKEEPSIE - Three early runs in game two of their Liberty League double header led the Vassar baseball team to a split against St. Lawrence University. The Brewers won, 4-2 after falling 4-3 in game one at Prentiss Field.

Junior first baseman Brett Zaziski tripled in his first at-bat in the nightcap, driving in senior shortstop Mike Perrone. Zaziski was perfect in the nightcap, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. His second RBI came in the top of the third when he singled in Perrone again for a 2-0 lead.

Junior second baseman Dave Robbins flied out to center field for a sac-fly RBI. bringing home freshman designated hitter Brooks English for the 3-0 lead. English scored again in the top of the seventh off a wild pitch by Saints' Eric McGuire.

Sophomore Johnny Mrlik picked up his first win of the season, going 7.1 innings and striking out eight. Freshman Connor Cucalon came on in the eighth, earning the Brewers' first save of the season.
