POUGHKEEPSIE – In a United Volleyball Conference match, the Vassar College men’s volleyball team swept Bard College in three sets, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14, Wednesday night at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers got a career high 32 set assists from sophomore Colin White-Dzuro and career high nine kills from freshman Erik Halberg.
The first set was close early with Vassar leading 9-7 and Bard remained close within 16-11 following a Vassar attack error. The Brewers then uncoiled four straight points for a 20-11 lead and with senior David de la Torre getting his first significant play of the season, Vassar closed out the first set 25-13.
The second set was the closest of the match. Once Vassar tied the set at 7-7, the Brewers never looked back. Bard did make the set interesting, coming within 21-17 off a Vassar attack error. But Vassar got back-to-back kills from freshman Kadeem Nibbs to sway the set.
