POUGHKEEPSIE – The Vassar College women’s soccer team fought their way to a 1-1 draw against the University of Rochester on Saturday at Gordon Field. The game was the program’s annual Senior Day, and marked their final home game of the season.

Sophomore forward Chloe Wheeler scored the only goal of the game for Vassar, her ninth of the season.

The Brewers, now 9-7-1, will travel to Schenectady to face Union College on Saturday, October 27th at 2:00 p.m. The Rochester Yellowjackets, now 4-12-2, will next face Washington University in St. Louis at home.

The Brewers struck first in the 21st minute, when Wheeler received a pass at the top of the box, moved clear of the defense and fired a hard shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Rochester narrowly missed tying the game in the 61st minute, when a hard shot from forward Grace Van Der Ven forced a tough save from senior goalkeeper Ali Higgins.

With six minutes left to play, Rochester midfielder Ashley Hunt played a through ball from the top of the box to senior defender Kristina Diaz, who sent an open shot from 12 yards out into the right side of the net to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Neither team could find a breakthrough in the extra frame and the game ended in a draw.
