TUSKEGEE, AL - The funeral for retired Lt. Col. Herbert E. Carter was held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Tuskegee University Chapel. The public service was officiated by Father Liston Garfield of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Tuskegee, Ala. On Wednesday there was a viewing of Carter’s body at Saint Andrew’s.
Carter died November 8, 2012 at East Alabama Medical Center. He was a university alumnus and member of the original cadre of the 99th Fighter Squadron of the famed Tuskegee Airmen. Carter also served as a professor of air science and commander of the Air Force ROTC Detachment 15 from 1950-1955 and professor of aerospace studies from 1965-1969.
In lieu of flowers and cards, generous donations were made to the Herbert E. Carter and Mildred Carter Scholarship Fund, C/O Tuskegee Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.
