Highland Elementary Character Event

Mckenzie Brooker, Najira Hanson, Nick Violaris, Olivia Casabura, Victoria Holleran, grade three students in Leigh Weaver’s class await their turn at the microphone.

HIGHLAND - Fictional and non fictional characters alike descended upon Highland Elementary School on Friday, May 16 during the Grade 3 Character Parade! Harry Potter and the fairies of the Magic Rainbow series were well represented, as well as characters from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and of course several of the Disney Princesses made an appearance. Even Thomas Edison and Paul Revere came by. The parade was a fun way for the students, who have been busy reading and writing since the beginning of the school year, to celebrate the power of books and their imaginations. Many of the classes have recently completed the book Peter Pan. Their teachers joined the parade as the characters from Neverland, surprising the students with a comical skit.

The activity was not just about dressing up, though. The students completed a book report prior to the parade, and tested out their public speaking skills at a post-parade assembly with parents and guests. Each of the students went to the microphone to introduce themselves, their character, and their book choice.
