NEWBURGH - The Newburgh Preparatory Charter High School, a new high school chartered by the NYS Board of Regents for students 16-21 years old who have left high school without a diploma, has begun looking for a leader who will be critical to the success of the school.
"The principal is the chief administrator of the high school," said Newburgh Prep Executive Director Tom Fitzgerald. "We’re looking for someone who will be responsible for implementing and managing a student-centered learning environment."
According to Fitzgerald, Newburgh Prep wants a principal who can work collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school staff as well and to communicate effectively with parents and members of the community.
"We see Newburgh Prep developing as a community school, offering a wrap-around program of social-emotional and academic assistance to our students and their families," said Fitzgerald. "Our principal needs to be the kind of person who can coordinate and manage a variety of programs and service providers."
The Newburgh Prep principal’s responsibilities also include planning, curriculum development, program and staff evaluation, and human capital management. Minimum requirements for the position include a Master’s Degree, a NYS SAS, and experience in a school leadership role. Special Education certification, experience with at-risk youth, and the ability to communicate in both English and Spanish are pluses, Fitzgerald said.
The Newburgh Preparatory Charter High School will open its doors on July 1, 2013, for staff and on August 26, 2013, for students.
