Gillibrand, Maloney Announce $1 Million for Early Education

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney announced $1,041,093 in federal funding for Regional Economic Community Action Program (RECAP), an Orange County community based organization. This federal investment will support Early Learning and Head Start programs that provide education and development services for low-income children.

"Head start programs help children start out strong and provide support at their most critical learning stages," Senator Gillibrand said. "These federal dollars for the Regional Economic Community Action Program will help deliver quality education programs for our children and reduce the cost of quality childcare for those who need it most. This is such an important investment into our community."

"As a father of three kids, I know how costly child care can be, which is why its critical to ensure hardworking moms and dads have access to quality early childhood education all across the Hudson Valley. Investing in early education programs like Head Start opens up opportunities for kids now and sets our children up for a lifetime of success," said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

"Regional Economic Community Action Program, Inc. (RECAP) thanks Senator Gillibrand, Senator Schumer and Congressman Maloney for their support of our work to enhance the continuum of service to needy children and families," said Sharon Sabine, Head Start Director RECAP, Inc. "We are grateful that the Head Start program helps us to provide comprehensive high quality early childhood education services to 184 low-income preschool children in Middletown and Port Jervis, NY."

Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive child development programs for children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and families. The programs focus on preparing children for school.

RECAP is a non-profit organization that has served Orange County residents since 1965. Their mission is to enhance the lives of low-income individuals and to help them become self-sufficient. In addition to providing Head Start services, they support low-income Orange County residents with housing counseling services and assistance, addiction recovery counseling as well as offer emergency food services.
