More Than $2 Million Grant for Head Start of East OC Announced

U.S Senator Kristen Gillibrand

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand recently announced a $2,093,981 federal grant for Head Start of Eastern Orange County. This federal funding will support Early Learning and Head Start programs that provide education and development services for low-income children.

"This is a smart investment that can help give more Orange County children the chance they deserve to start out strong, and go as far as their own hard work will take them," Senator Gillibrand said. "These federal dollars for Orange County will help deliver quality education, access to food and other critical services that our children and families deserve."

"We greatly appreciate the support of Senator Gillibrand as an advocate and friend of Head Start of Eastern Orange County," said Ann Pagliaro, Executive Director Head Start of Eastern Orange County. "The funds awarded our organization will restore reductions made in Head Start enrollment slots and staffing due to sequestration. It’s our privilege to continue providing high quality early childhood education and family support services to 227 low-income children in the City of Newburgh and Eastern Orange County. It is vital to have this support to continue to tackle the achievement gap for vulnerable children. Our goal is to ensure all children and families have the skills and supports necessary to be successful lifelong learners."

Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive child development programs for children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and families. The programs focus on preparing children for school.

Head Start of Eastern Orange County provides services to children from Newburgh and Eastern Orange County, including transportation for students and families with disabilities. Along with Head Start, they provide health and dental services, as well as a full meal service program.
