Skoufis on St. Luke’s plan to layoff workers

Assemblyman James Skoufis

The following is a statement from Assemblyman James Skoufis of District 99:

"It’s downright insulting to our community and its employees that SLCH is deciding to put families out of work at a time when they are openly pursuing ways to pay out bonuses for its executives. In no way is that acceptable.

"If the hospital is true to its claims to be looking at all its options to identify savings and efficiencies in order to sustain services to our community, then I have a reasonable suggestion: look to cut out bonuses for hospital executives before laying off hardworking employees."

Assemblyman Skoufis (D-Woodbury) recently held a news conference in front of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital condemning their recent request to shut down their emergency room during the hours from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. Assemblyman Skoufis was joined by concerned families, emergency first responders, hospital employees and local community leaders to help keep the hospital’s emergency department open full-time.
