Diana on the decision to uphold payroll tax

Orange County Executive Edward Diana

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana has released the following statement in response to the Appellate Court’s recent decision to uphold the MTA payroll tax:

"I am extremely disappointed by the State Supreme Court Appellate Division’s decision to uphold the MTA’s payroll tax. This tax severely impacts Orange County’s ability to attract and retain business and promote economic development. It is a regressive, job-killing measure that places an unfair burden on businesses of all sizes. Supporting the MTA at the expense of local employers is outrageous, especially given the disparity between the dollars Orange sends to the MTA and the amount of service we receive. The MTA tax obstructs job creation and continues to devastate our local economy at an already difficult time. We will continue to fight it until a more equitable arrangement can be achieved."
