This Week in Orange County 4-3-13

Orange County Executive Edward Diana

I would like to send greetings to those of you who are observing Passover this week. Passover is a time of joy and renewal. I wish you a Happy Passover as you gather at the Seder table with your family and friends. And, for those who will be celebrating the joyful holiday of Easter, I send greetings to you as well. During this holy season I hope you take great joy in spending this special time with your loved ones while reflecting on the many blessings that fill your lives - Happy Easter.

Please join me in remembering our brave men and women in uniform who are separated from their families by great distances during this holy season. We pray for their safety and strength, and we honor those who gave their lives to advance peace and secure our liberty.

Spring, like Passover and Easter, is a time of renewal and new beginnings. The birds are returning home, the grass is getting greener, and soon the flowers and trees will be in bloom. It’s a beautiful time in Orange County and the perfect time to get to know our outstanding parks system a little better. Bring your children or grandchildren to the annual Orange County Spring Egg Hunt at Thomas Bull Memorial Park, 211 State Route 416 in Montgomery on Saturday, March 30, at 11:00 am. Children aged 7 years and younger are invited to participate. Admission is free! In addition, be certain to check out the great classes being offered at the Orange County Arboretum in April. Be sure to stay tuned for the special announcement when the tulips at the Arboretum are predicted to be at their peak. That is a spectacular sight!

If spring’s arrival is your cue to start up your fitness program, our parks system is great for that too. Walk, run, ride, or roll on the Heritage Trail, the County’s linear park that can take you from Goshen to Monroe on a paved pathway. Make your reservations for golf at one of the County’s two courses. Take your dog for a romp at the dog park. Check out the exercise trail that starts out from the boathouse at Thomas Bull Memorial Park or just hike the grounds of the more than 30,000 acres of federal, state, county, and local parkland in Orange County.

For more information about happenings at our Orange County Parks, visit them online at Welcome, spring!

Until next week, I wish all of you good health and happiness in the days ahead.
