NEWBURGH - With a heavy heart the City of Newburgh Police Department announced that on July 1st police canine Ibor, who was handled by Officer John Maguire, was put to rest due to a sudden and unforeseen illness.
Ibor was born on February 22, 2005. He graduated from the OCSO K-9 academy on June 30, 2006.
Ibor had numerous certifications, including: NYS BMP certified in patrol tracking, apprehension, scent detection and narcotics detection. Ibor was also certified with the USPCA in narcotics, tracking and patrol work.
During the USPCA PD1 competition in 2010 Ibor and PO Maguire came in the top two in all patrol categorizes in the novice division. They were also a part of a team that came in third place over all.
During the USPCA competition in 2011 Officer Maguire and Ibor came in the top 10 overall and took 5th place over all in obedience out of 35 K9 teams.
Ibor was named after City of Newburgh Officer William Robinson who was shot and killed on November 18, 1973.
