POUGHKEEPSIE - On Monday, August 26th Walkway Over the Hudson - the nonprofit group that raises funds for the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park - hosted New York Secretary of State Cesar A. Perales for an informative tour of the bridge and its surroundings. During this two-hour event, Walkway Over the Hudson Executive Director Elizabeth Waldstein-Hart reviewed recently funded Department of State projects located in Poughkeepsie (Dutchess County) and the Town of Lloyd (Ulster County).
"We were thrilled to show Secretary of State Cesar A. Perales how far the Walkway has come in just a few years, as well as discuss the park’s great potential," said Waldstein-Hart. "Not only did he get to see a firsthand glimpse of the park’s exquisite Hudson River views, smiling visitors, and the dedication of our supporters, but also we were able to converse about future growth and development of the Walkway."
The tour began at the Washington Street Stairway entrance, the future site of the Department of State and City of Poughkeepsie Washington Street Plaza renovation project. Upstairs, he was shown the newly constructed WalkwayEast Pavilion, which was built entirely with donated funds and services to provide a home base for volunteer Ambassadors (opened in May 2013). On the bridge, Waldstein-Hart described the Walkway Waterfront Elevator Construction Project, slated to open late-fall 2013 before discussing Walkway’s Consolidated Funding Application to the state for funds to improve visitor amenities and trail connections on the West side of the Park, as well as Greater Walkway Region marketing efforts.
