Newburgh set to kick off city’s Illuminated Festival

NEWBURGH - Although many displays will be available during the day, the kickoff event for the Newburgh Illuminated Festival will be on Friday night, June 21, 2013.

The Illumination Festival Chorus and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Mount Saint Mary College at Aquinas Hall. The performance includes "The Testament of Freedom" and "The Last Words of David" by Randall Thompson, the "Gospel Mass" of Robert Ray, and an orchestra performance of Manuel de Falla’s "Tres Picos de Sombrero" and selections from Bizet’s "Carmen." The concert will conclude with the audience joining the orchestra and chorus in singing the famous Wilhousky arrangement of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," a concert favorite. This concert features the talents of the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Orange County Classic Choral Society, the Newburgh Symphonic Chorale, and independent singers from Newburgh and the surrounding area. Featured in the "Gospel Mass" is NYC tenor soloist, LaVell Thompson, Jr.

This is not your standard festival - this is a big, city-wide party with over 30 scheduled events! Come and help us celebrate Newburgh!
