Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana made the following statement today:
As
we all know, Hurricane Sandy brought unprecedented devastation to many
of our fellow citizens in the New York metropolitan area. Our thoughts
and prayers go out to the victims and their families during this time.
Orange County stands ready to help the municipalities hardest hit any way possible, and we have already sent emergency personnel
and resources to Nassau County as part of our mutual aid agreements.
Our
County was also impacted by the storm, as we still have many friends
and neighbors without electricity. The utility companies that service
our region are working diligently to get those areas of Orange County
back on-line as soon as possible, and we thank those affected for their
patience and cooperation.
We
are also aware of an interruption of gas delivery to our region due to
the storm. I have spoken to Governor Cuomo and to the New York State
Office of Emergency Management, as well as our federal partners,
Senator Gillibrand, Congresswoman Hayworth, Senator Schumer and U.S.
Coast Guard, in order to ascertain their help on this important matter.
Supplies
of gasoline are on their way to our region, yet residents should know
the process will take time. As we work on finding temporary
relief, I advise residents to be prudent with their supply and limit
any unnecessary travel. I also ask for your continued cooperation and
patience during these difficult times by showing mutual respect for one
another.
