NEWBURGH - The Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center recently hosted supporters and friends of the new ROAR – Reach Out And Read Pediatric Reading Nook ribbon cutting. The Reach Out And Read program prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.
In place for over a year, Family Health Center Pediatrician’s led by Dr. Avi Silber, medical director, prescribe, chart and give each patient from six months to five years a brand new book at each Well Visit. The ROAR initiative at the Health Center is chaired by Mrs. Patricia K. Larkin who welcomed guests to the ribbon cutting of the adorable new Reading Nook, with furniture provided by Community Playthings. Over 2400 books will be distributed in 2013, funded in part by community partners – The United Way of Dutchess and Orange, the Newburgh Kiwanis, the Newburgh Rotary and Friends of the Family Health Center.
To help support the ROAR initiative, The Family Health Center is hosting an Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser on February 23, 2013.
Collection of used and new children’s board books is welcome at the fund raiser. Celebrity waiters will include Brian Maher, Mayor Village of Walden; Judy Kennedy, Mayor of Newburgh, Dr. Avi Silber, Colonel Charles Faro, Retired and more.
