West Point - The West Point Band will present a concert of music from around the world. The concert will feature retired Croatian Army band officer Drago Bubalo conducting music from his home country. Captain Dae Kim will conduct the music of Richard Strauss, W.A. Mozart and Percy Grainger. The concert is free and open to the public on Sunday, August 1st at 7:30 p.m. in the Trophy Point Amphitheatre.
The concert will begin with Richard Strauss’ Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare. The work was written in 1924 for the Philharmonic’s first benefit ball. It is a spectacular showpiece for the West Point Band’s brass section. The concert continues with W.A. Mozart’s Overture to Marriage of Figaro, a virtuosic, lighthearted romp set for band by arranger Tohru Takahashi.
The concert then heads to Spain’s Costa del Sol with Jose Serebrier’s Carmen Symphony. The work is comprised of themes from Bizet’s beloved opera Carmen.
